Card Readers
Proximity Card Readers
These readers detect the presence of a proximity card or key fob without requiring physical contact. The card or fob is held near the reader, and the credentials are transmitted wirelessly through radio frequency (RF) signals.
Smart Card Readers
Smart cards contain embedded microprocessors that store and process data. Smart card readers communicate with the microprocessor to authenticate users. These cards can store more information and support additional security features compared to traditional proximity cards.
Biometric Readers
Biometric access technology requires an enrolment process to set users up on the system. This can be done within GuardPoint10, with no additional software needed.
Fingerprint Readers
These readers scan and analyse an individual’s fingerprint pattern to authenticate their identity.
Facial Authentication Readers
Facial authentication technology captures and analyses facial features to verify a person’s identity.
Keypad Readers
Keypad readers require users to enter a numerical PIN code for authentication. The entered code is compared to a stored database of authorised codes.
Bluetooth and NFC Readers
These readers interact with devices that use Bluetooth or Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. With these readers, authorised persons can use their smartphones or NFC-enabled devices for authentication.
QR Readers
Less common in access control but still used, barcode readers scan barcodes or QR codes on cards or devices for authentication.
Long-Range RFID Readers
These readers can communicate with RFID cards or tags from a greater distance, making them suitable for applications where quick, hands-free access is required, like vehicle access control.
Multi-Technology Readers
Some readers support multiple technologies, allowing users to choose from several authentication methods, such as card and PIN, fingerprint, or a combination.
